We’re all wanna-be party planners, so we get pretty into it. Sometimes our ideas and efforts turn out perfectly (Chad and Laura’s wedding!). And sometimes, well, we don’t blog about those other times.

Saturday Morning 3.9.13: Wedding Bouquets

Happy Saturday morning to you!

Jeanne spent her morning making bouquets for a friend’s wedding. The look for this wedding called for a bridal bouquet of red roses and baby’s breath.

Jeanne is a fantastic amateur florist. She was taught by her mother who had a floral business for several years. The skill and joy that comes along with it is contagious, and I’ve tried my best to pick it up over the years, doing the flowers for several friends’ weddings (with my mother on the phone, of course). For Laura and Chad’s wedding, she tackled the bridal bouquet, coached me through the other bouquets, and instructed Sasha and a few girls from our family through the other arrangements.

There’s something about caring for and arranging flowers for someone’s special day that adds an extra touch of love to the occasion.

Flower arranging can be intimidating at first, but it’s really not that hard once you try it. Making bouquets can be great fun and save a lot of money. As with anything these days, there are countless articles on how to make your own bouquets. Here are a few good ones from A Practical Wedding¬†and The Knot.

Saturday morning for the rest of the gang included P90X at 5 am for Sasha (go girl!), knitting and a plyometircs workout for me, and a road trip to Chattanooga, TN for Laura (and Chad).

Couples Baby Party

I love planning and hosting parties, especially for people I love. Last Saturday, Wynn and I threw a party for our dear friends, Trent and Katrina, who are about to have their first child. They’re outdoorsy, low maintenance folks, so I went with a woodlands theme for the party. It turned out great, Katrina was thrilled, and everyone had a great time.

The setting for the party was at their gorgeous A-frame house with this picturesque barn behind it.

To prepare for the party, Wynn smoked a pork roast all day and Trent snow plowed an area for the bonfire (only in Alaska moment for this southern girl).

These cupcakes were so easy. There are tons of cute cut-outs from http://www.childreninspiredesign.com/.

We planned a few activities to entertain the guests (with some inspiration and guidance from a few of my girlfriends).

Trent and Wynn work hard on their onesie masterpieces. I was shocked at how well this activity went over. (Animal stencils were key to the success -- everyone is an artist with a stencil!)

As a result of the party and the painting marathon, Katrina has about 20 (mostly tasteful) cute onesies in her baby’s wardrobe.

It’s amazing how many people will cheese it up when there is a “photo booth” and a few silly props. Everyone loved it!

We finished the night with a bonfire (by that picturesque barn).

To make the bonfire just as festive as the inside of the house, we had s’mores, popcorn, hot cocoa, and blankets for folks to wrap up in.

Best of luck, Katrina and Trent. We’re so happy for you guys and hope everyone is healthy as can be!
